I absolutely adored Brooke and Mark’s wedding. It was packed full of friendly debauchery, beautiful details, joyful tears, and an ethereal sunset. Brooke and Mark keep good company, like really good company. Alex and I really loved being amongst their friends and family and there were no shortage of laughs throughout the evening.
This wedding is the owner of the best, the best, I mean…by far the best speeches we’ve ever heard. But more about that later. Come see my favorites from their lovely day…
Also more about this orange cake later too…yes an orange cake (a cake that tastes like oranges 😉
My friend Katie from Little Yellow Flower Design did the flowers and she did not disappoint. I love the classic arrangements with artichokes and herbs, yup artichokes!
And then the light started to steal the show…almost.
I’m not sure how the bride and groom will feel about me telling this next story…but I don’t think they’ll mind. Ya see, every now and again I get a bit concerned that we’re losing light and we won’t have enough time to capture all the bridal party photos that we need. Enter Mark’s mom who was 20 minutes late getting to the ceremony…sorry Mark’s mom, but you really saved our butts. Because of you being stuck in rush hour Austin traffic we were able to get all photos done with that beautiful sunset behind your son and daughter-in-law. So thank you, from the bottom of my photog heart!!!
So about these speeches. Geez oh man, I would go back and listen to them all over again if I could. Mark has a lot of brothers…and a sister, and they’re all wonderful storytellers. Like they must have all majored in public speaking in college and they’re probably all stand up comics who go to improv classes every now and then. The speeches were just incredible, they were sweet and heartfelt and then they’d be hilarious and then they’d be a bit sad and you’d start crying and then they’d pull you back into another funny story. My cheeks hurt from laughing.
And this cake was quite the special cake. Mark is a chef and his twin sister Erin who also delivered an Oscar worthy speech told the story of how she felt a lot of pressure baking and creating this cake for her twin brother because of his sophisticated palette. Erin asked Brooke and Mark what type of cake they wanted and Brooke immediately said, “orange.” Orange because her late brother Chris loved orange flavored cake and it would be such a wonderful tribute to him. It was delicous, my taste buds were blown away 😉
