Sometimes when I’m at weddings I think about the moment when I’ll be writing the blog post. I’ll file tidbits and factoids away for hopefully writing an eloquent and heartfelt tribute to the couple accompanied by their wedding photos. I did a lot of that on Dej and Gio’s wedding day. Ya see, everybody was just so thrilled to be there and filled with joy on their wedding day. Giovanni gazed at Dej with the utmost affection and Dej returned his gaze with so much passion and heart, it was all just too good.
I met Dej at a friend’s backyard bbq a handful of summers ago and as soon as I laid eyes on her I vowed I’d be friends with her. She exudes charisma and sass, she was on her way to a Hall & Oates concert and that sealed the deal that she was the epitome of cool. She also took an instant liking to Olive and was interested to learn about me. It’s impossible to not like her, she cares about people. A year or two after that I heard wonderful latin music playing in the distance, I wandered over to a basketball court where a band was playing and in the middle of it Dej and Gio were dancing with one another, that was my first time meeting Gio (very fitting) and he was as lovely in person as he seemed on Facebook 😉
These two amazing souls met at a wedding in Antigua and Gio mentioned later that he loved her instantly. Their love story continues to build strength and we all watched them in wonder on the dance floor at their reception. Dej excused herself from the dance floor for a few minutes and returned in an actual dress dance professionals wear to perform in with professional dancing shoes, girl was ready. She twirled her way to the dance floor and everybody started screaming (including me). I’ve honestly never seen anyone that I’ve known personally dance the way she does, and Gio is no slouch either. Ya know that dancer girl emoji who wears a red dress? That’s freakin’ Dej, that emoji was made JUST FOR HER. I still am at a loss for words really.
Celebrating alongside them on their big day were men and women from so many ethnicities and all walks of life. It seriously looked like an ad for United Colors of Benetton and it made ya feel good. Their wedding was the way I want this world to be, diverse and beautiful and free of judgement.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Dej and Giovanni for trusting us to capture your wedding day perfectly in time. We are forever grateful to have been a part of your big day. I’ll never forget the moments I spent dancing at your wedding while eating cheesecake your mom made. All the besos!!!
