Oh what a dream it is to be able to capture wedding days for friends. Being in Cambridge, Massachusetts to witness and photograph the emotional and modern wedding of Alec and Erik was a treat and a half. Alec was one of Alex’s roommates when we studied abroad in Florence, Italy in 2004. Our joint love of ridiculous inside jokes, Italian pastry, Medici balls, and Sad Gelato Man budded furiously while we were in the bel paese. We’ve all loved each other ferociously ever since.
Even though we were working hard to capture a memorable day for Alec and Erik it was so restorative and so good for our souls. On the day of so many memories came flooding back with the sound of Alec’s laugh and the way she brushes her bangs out of her face, it all brought me back to our Fall semester abroad at SACI (our beloved Italian art school). Alec and Erik walked down the aisle hand in hand, read loving vows to each other, became legal partners in marriage, kissed and then walked back down the aisle hands clasped and raised triumphantly over their heads. Watching it all was pretty magnificent. So many tears, so much happiness and so much hope for the future.
My favorite part of the day, and there were so many to choose from, was when Alec, Rachel and I walked to meet Erik and Alex at the designated first look spot. An otherwise sunny day turned into a rainy one for maybe 20 minutes, I had too many umbrellas, camera bags and this goddamn water bottle with no place to put it all. I needed free hands so I could document the moment (obviously). Enter, the ever helpful Rachel (Alex’s other roommate in Italy and Alec’s best friend) who carried so much of my crap plus kept a hand on her dress that was being whipped around by the unruly winds. I was laughing so hard my cheeks were aching.
I could write so much more, about this happy/perfect/joyous day but I know it’s already evident in the photos, so here they are…
