Kirsten + Chase

Wedding

Welcome to the wedding that was one for the LewChan record books. If any of you spent much time in Texas at the beginning of this summer you’ll remember rain Rain and more RAIN. Especially near the end of May (ahem, I’m looking at you Memorial Day Weekend). Kirsten and Chase and a slew of other brides and grooms in the Texas Hillcountry chose this weekend to say “I Do” and they got poured on. However, in the midst of raging rivers, tornado sirens, and gusting winds emerged the perseverence and grace of a couple who remained calm and smiley the entire day. It was so impressive how well these two young lovebirds were able to hold it together. So many people would have lost it and cried and never once did I see these two huff or puff. They were simply elated to be marrying each other and to have this be the beginning of their forever.

It was clear when I pulled up to Kirsten’s parents’ property in Round Top that afternoon that the couple and their family had spent months and months and months gathering and making every detail of the wedding by hand. I mean EVERYTHING was handmade and beautiful. It kind of broke my heart seeing it all get rained on. This couple had vintage church pews set up in a field for their guests. Church pews it took four roundtrips to and from Fredericksburg to get to her parents’ house. That my friends is committment.

The photos we did get this gray day I feel are still so beautiful and I’ll remember this thunderstorm of a wedding for my entire life.

Speaking of handmade details and this being a family affair, let’s talk about these cakes. Kirsten’s 15 year old sister is a bonafide baking superstar and spent the week baking and creating these beautiful masterpieces. They were as delicious as they were spectacular.

Besides it raining cats and dogs outside I HAD to get this couple’s first look out by those church pews. It was a joint effort, Chase held his own umbrella while his brother and best man kept me sheltered and one of Kirsten’s flower girls kept her covered…phew. But it worked and it was so sweet!

Thankfully the couple and the couple’s family have a lot of friends in town. They had to scrap the idea of getting married outside amongst all their beautiful flowers and details and high tail it to a local church. We were all welcomed into the dry sanctuary last minute, thank goodness!!
